Digital Multimeters
A digital multimeter (DMM) is an electronic measuring tool and when used properly can locate just about any type of problem. These high tech, hand held test equipment instruments will analyze the voltage, current and resistance, these being the three factors when testing for a problem. Digital Multimeters come with many different functions and it is important to read through the owners manual to learn how to properly use the device.
A few things to look for when purchasing a DMM is to consider the meter's impedance. This is the meter's operating resistance, if a device has a low impedance compared to the circuit being tested the reading may not be very accurate. Another consideration when purchasing a DMM is the size of the meter. Many professionals like the pocket digital multimeter because of its size and portability. Another popular device is the graphical DMM, which is ideal for basic fault location and electronic troubleshooting in all types of industrial and household items.
