NuDAM Modular Serial A/D, D/A, & DIO

NuDAM is a series of Intelligent Data
Acquisition & Control Modules designed for data acquisition systems based on
PCs and other processor based equipment with standard serial I/O ports (RS-232).
These modules convert analog input signals to engineering units and transmit to
any host computer with an RS-232 port in ASCII format. These NuDAM modules are a
key component in a flexible and cost effective distributed data acquisition and
control system.
NuDAM modules provide direct linkage to a wide variety of
sensors and perform all signal conditioning, scaling, linearization and
conversion. These module can be used to measure temperature, pressure, flow,
voltage, current, and numerous types of digital signals.

NuDAM modules are designed for challenging industrial environments
and conditions. They can handle speeds up to 38.4k bps and can accomodate up to
128 modules on the network without a repeater. In addition, they provide 500V
rms high isolated voltage and a watchdog timer for increased reliability.
NuDAM is designed with a cured coating on the PCB for maximum protection in harsh environments. This coating provides protection from environmental conditions, including humidity, salt spray and most harsh chemicals. Additionally, the inside of the NuDAM ABS case is coated with an electrode material which improves protection from radio frequency (RFI) and electromagnetic (EMI) interference.
1. Industry standard networking: NuDAM uses the EIA RS-485 communication protocol for transmitting and receiving at high rates and over long distance (up to 4000 feet). The RS-485 is the most widely used communication protocol in industrial applications.
2. Two-wire multi-drop communication: Twisted pair wire is used to transmit and receive data between modules. Multi-drop capability makes system configuration more flexible and easy to set-up a control network.
3. Simple command/response protocol: All communications to and from the modules are performed with printable ASCII characters. This allows the information to be processed with string functions common to most high-level languages like C and BASIC.
4. Industrial design: All NuDAM modules are supplied with durable screw terminal plug connectors. The connector ensures simple installation, repair without disturbing fixed wiring and easy modification. The compact size allows the modules to be mounted on a DIN rail, back-panel wall-mount, etc.
5. Suitable for industrial environments: All NuDAM modules accept any unregulated power source between +10V to 30V DC.
6. Watch-dog supervisory: NuDAM contains watch-dog supervisory circuitry which will automatically reset the module in the event of a system failure. In addition, a user-programmable software timer provides a "safe" output signal in the event of host computer and communication failure. This can minimize damage and disruption to the system.
7. PCB surface coating & noise immunity: A surface coating protects and prolongs the life of the PCB, thick-film circuit and electronic components. This allows superior resistance to harsh environmental conditions, including humidity, salt spray and most harsh chemicals. In addition, an electrode is sprayed on the internal ABS case of the module for noise reduction.
8. 100% compatible with Advantech's ADAM modules: NuDAM's routing, configuration and protocol are 100% compatible with Advantech's ADAM modules. NuDAM and ADAM modules can be used on the same network.
