600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The troubleshooting\u00a0operation was also performed using a Fluke portable\u00a0DSO, to compare various models presently\u00a0available to the technician and engineer.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2389\" src=\"https:\/\/www.circuitspecialists.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Hantek-DSO5202P-and-Fluke-Circuit-Specialists-Blog.jpg\" alt=\"Hantek DSO5202P and Fluke - Circuit Specialists Blog\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These units\u00a0vary in cost from\u00a0a few\u00a0hundred dollars for the\u00a0Hantek, to several thousands of dollars for the Fluke.<\/p>\n<p>A 1 Khz sinusoidal signal was used as the input\u00a0source and the waveform was monitored from input to\u00a0output with both scopes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2391\" src=\"https:\/\/www.circuitspecialists.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Hantek-DSO5202P-vs-Fluke-Circuit-Specialists-Blog.jpg\" alt=\"Hantek DSO5202P vs Fluke - Circuit Specialists Blog\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Screen shots of the two\u00a0scopes illustrate the essentially identical waveforms displayed on each of two DSOs.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2369\" src=\"https:\/\/www.circuitspecialists.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Hantek-DSO5202P-Waveform-2.jpg\" alt=\"Hantek DSO5202P Waveform 2\" width=\"600\" semiconductor amplifier has non-linearities\u00a0inherent in the devices, we naturally expect to see\u00a0distortion products produced even in a properly\u00a0functioning circuit.<\/p>\n<p>Minor amounts of distortion are to be expected and\u00a0are extremely hard to see as is evidenced in the\u00a0attached waveforms.<\/p>\n<p>The Hantek DSO5202P scope\u00a0has advanced features not available in the Fluke\u00a0model that allow us to zoom in on the distortion\u00a0produced in the amplifier stages.<\/p>\n<p>The FFT feature\u00a0allows viewing the waveform in amplitude vs\u00a0frequency format that makes the distortion products\u00a0much more evident.<\/p>\n<p>The screen shots of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.circuitspecialists.com\/hantek-200mhz-digital-storage-oscilloscope-dso5202p.html\">DSO5202P<\/a> shows\u00a0noticeable frequency content at 3 Khz and 5 Khz\u00a0which are the third and fifth level harmonic products\u00a0typically found in a waveform that was experiencing\u00a0crossover distortion.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2370\" src=\"https:\/\/www.circuitspecialists.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Hantek-DSO5202P-Waveform.jpg\" alt=\"Hantek DSO5202P Waveform\" width=\"600\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.circuitspecialists.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Hantek-DSO5202P-Waveform.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.circuitspecialists.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Hantek-DSO5202P-Waveform-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once the distortion levels were\u00a0displayed, it became much easier to pinpoint the\u00a0source of this distortion.<\/p>\n<p>The cause was tracked down\u00a0to improper dc bias levels in the intermediate stage of\u00a0the amplifier circuit.<\/p>\n<p>Although the troubleshooting operation was possible\u00a0using either the Fluke or the Hantek scope and the\u00a0waveform quality was essentially identical.<\/p>\n<p>The FFT\u00a0capability of the Hantek scope allowed much more\u00a0efficient tracking down of the elusive crossover\u00a0distortion caused by the defective bias
