{"id":350,"date":"2012-11-07T16:16:12","date_gmt":"2012-11-07T23:16:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.circuitspecialists.com\/?p=350"},"modified":"2024-01-04T22:12:29","modified_gmt":"2024-01-05T05:12:29","slug":"using-the-cx101bg-digital-panel-meter-dpm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.circuitspecialists.com\/blog\/using-the-cx101bg-digital-panel-meter-dpm\/","title":{"rendered":"Using the CX101BG Digital Panel Meter (DPM)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.circuitspecialists.com\/digital-panel-meter-cx101bg.html\">CX101BG Digital Panel Meter<\/a> from Circuit Specialists is an easy to use DPM<br \/>\nused in any system where the Power source and measured voltage share a<br \/>\ncommon Ground connection. Unlike its counterpart, the CX101A, this DPM<br \/>\ncannot be used with the Voltage divider PCB CX-ADD ON Board. This application<br \/>\nnote will provide instructions on how to use this DPM for different voltage ranges.<\/p>\n<p>Like all <a title=\"digital panel meters\" href=\"https:\/\/www.circuitspecialists.com\/digital-panel-meters\">Digital Panel Meters<\/a>, the full scale range of this DPM is 200 mv full-<br \/>\nscale. The basic connection is shown in the drawing below. If other full scale<br \/>\nvoltage ranges are desired, suitable voltage divider resistors are required. We will<br \/>\ndescribe how to calculate these values and provide a table for easy reference.<\/p>\n<p>To keep the calculated values within a range that is readily obtainable, we will use<br \/>\n10 Meg ohms as the maximum series resistor value. We can then calculate the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.circuitspecialists.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/CX101BG.bmp\"><br \/>\n<\/a><br \/>\nshunt resistor for our voltage divider network using the voltage divider equation<\/p>\n<p>Vout\/Vin=Rshunt\/(Rseries + Shunt)<\/p>\n<p>shunt resistor value. The results are tabulated below for full scale voltage values<br \/>\nof 2 Volts, 20 Volts, and 200 Volts.<\/p>\n<p>Use Rseries = 10 Meg Ohms for all three ranges.<\/p>\n<p>For 2 Volts full-scale<\/p>\n<p>For 20 Volts full-scale Rshunt= 101 K ohms (Use 100 K ohm)<\/p>\n<p>For 200 Volts full-scale Rshunt= 10.01 K ohms (use 10 K ohm)<\/p>\n<p>Note that the voltage value displayed on the meter can be fine-tuned by adjusting<br \/>\nthe trimmer potentiometer on the back of the DPM. Obviously if 200 mV full scale<br \/>\nis desired, Rshunt would not be used and Rseries would be replaced by a direct<br \/>\nconnection to pin7.<\/p>\n<p>This application note has shown how easy it is to determine the Resistor values<br \/>\nrequired to utilize the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.circuitspecialists.com\/digital-panel-meter-cx101bg.html\">CX101BG Digital Panel Meter<\/a> for various voltage ranges.<br \/>\nThe connection diagram is shown below.<\/p>\n<p>rearranging we can solve for the required<\/p>\n<p>Rshunt= 1.111 Meg ohms (Use 1.1 Meg Ohm)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:
