{"id":4114,"date":"2019-04-19T14:44:17","date_gmt":"2019-04-19T21:44:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.circuitspecialists.com\/blog\/?p=4114"},"modified":"2021-02-11T12:07:14","modified_gmt":"2021-02-11T19:07:14","slug":"how-to-calibrate-power-supply-voltage-current-readings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.circuitspecialists.com\/blog\/how-to-calibrate-power-supply-voltage-current-readings\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Test and Calibrate Power Supply Voltage\/Current Readings"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Have you noticed that the readings on your <a href=\"\/power-supplies-2\">power supply<\/a> for voltage or current, don&#8217;t seem to match with your usage? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To test the power supply output voltage:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grab your <a href=\"\/digital-multimeters\">digital multimeter<\/a> or whatever standard you can use to objectify your results, and check to see if intuition is indeed correct.  Set your multimeter to VDC, and connect your probes to the supply in parallel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To test your current reading:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Set your digital multimeter to its amperage setting capable of tolerating >= 5 amps with your meter probes in series with the supply. To ensure you&#8217;re getting a valid reading, use an electronic load or resistor capable of dissipating the heat. Remember P=I^2*R. See below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Caution: handle the unit with care after remove the enclosure as electrocution may be possible. Since we&#8217;re using the multimeter as the objective marker, that means the supply is too high, and needs to be adjusted to a lower value. Turn the knob until the values match, as seen below.
